Friday, Jan. 20 was the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States. The public ceremony was held on the West Front of the United States Capitol building in Washington, D.C. One of those working at the event was Lennox High School alumni, Christopher Oltmanns. Oltmanns graduated in 2015 and is an Air Nations Guard, E-4 Senior Airman, and a member of the 114th Security Forces Squadron. Oltmanns said his duty that day was to ensure the safety for all of those coming in to the parade. He was in D.C. Wednesday through Saturday.
He said, “I was honored that I got to be apart of something in American history.”
He said the mood of the event was energetic,“A lot of people were excited and eager to see everything.”
The highlight of the day was getting to see the convoy leave the white house and go to the Capitol building. Oltmanns reported that the rioting that took place in D.C. did not interfere with the work he was doing.
Oltmanns said he will be deployed sometime soon but is unable to say where or when.
Oltmanns is the son of Chris and Char Oltmanns. Char added, “It kind of gets me prepared for him being gone and doing his job in another country, as well.”
