State A’s: LHS Cheerleaders earn Spirit of Six

On Saturday night, during halftime of the State A Boys Basketball championship game, the Lennox High School cheerleaders were awarded the coveted Spirit of Six award. The award was started to celebrate the life and memory of six Rapid City cheerleaders and three adults who were killed in plane crash returning from a game in 1968.

“It’s an honor to receive the Spirit of Six Award,” said LHS Cheer Coach Robin Luther. “I am so proud of these girls. They worked so hard for this and performed so well. We had so much fun. They have been an absolute joy to coach.”

The awarded is given to the cheerleaders considered to be the best on crowd control, dress, sportsmanship and enthusiasm at the boys’ basketball tournament. Lennox cheerleaders demonstrating these qualities were Toni Serr, CarLee Mechels, Timi Serr, Julia Gesling, Taylor Smidt, Haley Reinholt, Allison Lefers, Karisa Hagena, and Brianna Homelvig.

“We are also proud of our cheerleaders for getting the Spirit of Six Award,” said Oriole head basketball coach Paul McVey. “They cheered their hearts out all season long and really got the crowd going at State.”
