Lennox has a strong showing at State Speech and Debate tournament

On March 5 and 6, Lennox students traveled to Huron to compete at the State Speech and Debate competition.

At the State Meet, students competed with teams in the “A” division from around the state. The Lennox team had a strong showing and ended up with a third place showing; just three points behind the second place team of Sturgis Brown.

Leading the way for the team in debate was Kaylee Bosma and Andrew Calhoon as quarter-finalists in public forum and Gunnar Geiken who was a semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate. On the speech side, Xavier Larson was named the State Champion in original oratory, Andrew Calhoon placed second in international extemporaneous speaking, and Destiny Christopherson placed sixth in international extemporaneous speaking.

The biggest take away says Coach Mike Larson is that this team is extremely young and talented, and that bodes well for the future. Only one of the state competitors is graduating this year. The youngest member, Gunnar Geiken, is just an eighth grader that joined the team late.
