Oyen named SD School Psychologist of the Year

Every year, the South Dakota Association of School Psychologists acknowledges one individual, nominated by peers or colleagues, who stands out as a shining example of the best of the profession. On Oct. 1st Kari Oyen, Lennox School District’s school psychologist, received this prestigious honor at the SDASP’s annual conference.

“I thank the SD Association of School Psychologists for this honor,” said Oyen.

Oyen completed her undergraduate work in psychology at Augustana University in 2005. She attended graduate school and obtained her Ed.S. in School Psychology through the University of South Dakota in 2008. Currently, Oyen is a Ph.D. candidate in the School Psychology program at the University of South Dakota and expects to complete her Ph.D. work in the next year.

Aside from her work in the school district, Oyen is active in state and national organizations. She is the chair of the Government Professional Relations (GPR) for South Dakota, President Elect for the SD Association of School Psychologists, Central Region representative for the GPR committee for the National Association of School Psychologists, and committee member of the Managing Emergency Behaviors workgroup in South Dakota.

Oyen knew early on that this was the field for her.
