Worthing to hold community celebration this weekend

Bernard Zahn has lived in Worthing his entire life, and wanted to make sure Worthing Days happened this year — so he took the lead to get things organized. And things have shaped up really well, he said.

Worthing’s annual celebration will be held this Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23. One change this year, said Zahn, is that everything will be taking place on Main Street.

This year’s event will begin on Friday, June 22 with a supper prepared by the 4-H Dakota Lassies and Rangers at the Worthing Civic Center, serving will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The Car Show will take place on Main Street that evening, too, and Zahn confirmed that Batman will be making an appearance! Root Beer Floats by the Masonic Lodge will also be served on Main Street at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

On Saturday, June 23 the Parade will line up at Beck St. and Louise Ave. at 10 a.m. Applications for parade participation are at Worthing City Hall.

The parade is set to begin at 11 a.m. The parade will run 1st to Main Street.

Zahn said that on Saturday, there will be a kiddy train, the SDSU ice cream truck and vendors inside and outside.

There will be lunch prepared by the Worthing Masonic Lodge at the Worthing Civic Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Kid’s inflatables, Dunk Tank and FacePainting will take place this year on Main Street from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be a Kids’ Tractor Pull at 1 p.m.

A couple of other fun additions this year will be a Kids’ (6 to 11 years old) and City Commissioners’ Pie Eating Contest on Main Street. And at 3 p.m. a “Junk Car Engine Blow Up” will be held. How long will it run without oil or fluids?

Zahn added next year Worthing will celebrate 140 years.
