By Wendy Sweeter
While rain has slowed work on the 4th Avenue utility improvement project in Lennox, at this point it won’t be by much.
Greg Stack, Lennox public works director, said the project began May 14 and was expected to last until about July 12. The rain has caused some delay.
“It’s slowed it down some. If anything, it may slow it down maybe a week,” he said. “At this particular time, it’s hard to say.”

Rain slows up work on 4th Avenue project

Lennox city councilmen and citizens discussed at length what to do with the railroad addition at the June 10 city council meeting.
Mayor Orville Wiebers said the council needed to discuss a date for an auction where four parcels of land would be split.
Councilman Glenn Nelson suggested that each parcel should be required to include curb and gutter.
Citizens questioned if the railroad had been asked about their thoughts about curb and gutter on their side of the property. Other questions included who would and should pay for curb and gutter on the property and why the area has a proposed through street rather than a cul-de-sac.
“If we want curb and gutter everywhere, this is the place to show that we do. I agree with saving the taxpayer money,” said councilman Tracy West.

Lennox pool opens; features new hours this season

While the Lennox pool was scheduled to open June 7, crews were working on the pumps instead.
Laura Welch, pool manager, said the pool opened June 10. A new pool lift was installed last week at the shallow end of the pool.
Ten lifeguards will protect swimmers this year.
“They won’t have guard room attendants. All lifeguards will be handling all areas of the pool,” Welch said.
The pool features new hours this season. Open swim is noon to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Family swim runs from 5 to 7 p.m.

City Council holds special meeting

Lennox City Council held a special meeting on Wednesday, May 29.
Park and Rec Board members Nichole Olson and Sam Bowers spoke to the council about complaints the board was getting from coaches and parents, about conditions at the ball fields and whether or not the fields were ready for play.
The board members were told that Dave Tipton or Orville Wiebers were the people to contact about those issues.
Park and Rec members also expressed concern about not being involved in selecting a new board member to replace Meghan Clark, who resigned from the board last month.
