Residents speak out against rezoning of old football field property

Following a public hearing on the rezoning of the “old football field” property, it was the consensus of the Lennox Council to not rezone the property to General Business District, due to the concerns brought by residents living in the neighborhood.
Lennox Properties, LLC had purchased the property from the Lennox School District. The sale was disputed by the City of Lennox, because the City had a right of first refusal on the property which gave them an opportunity to match any bids on the property. However, because the property was sold in combination with the old school administration building, it was the opinion of the City that the sale was not valid. The City also had a use agreement with the school that allowed them to use the property for another ten years. The City has taken legal action to retain the property.

School board approves building plans, accepts superintendent’s retirement request

School board members approved Architecture Incorporated’s plan for the 7th and 8th grade addition at the high school and to develop bid documents based on this plan at their special meeting held last Thursday.
Two other actions took place at the meeting:
1. The board declared the Chancellor Elementary playground equipment surplus for donation to the City of Chancellor.
2. The board accepted Dr. Robert Mayer’s retirement for the 2014-2015 school year.
