State Highway 17 slated for major improvements in 2016

The South Dakota Department of Transportation hosted an open house last week to give local residents an overview of the planned SD Highway 17 project and to receive input from the public. The project is planned for 2016.
Mark Leiferman, Chief Road Design Engineer, presented a power point outlining the project. The improvements will begin at the City limits north of Lennox and continue to the junction of Highway 44 at the south edge of Lennox.

Lewis & Clark capital call rejected

The Lewis & Clark Regional Water System’s board of directors voted Oct. 24 to reject the capital call, which would have required LCRWS members to put more money into the project to keep it moving forward. Lack of federal funds has stalled the project and members had two options: continue the “wait and see” strategy and hope federal funds would be delivered, or to ask members that have already fully paid for their portions to pay more into the system.
Five of 20 members — Luverne, Worthington, Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water System, Lennox and Beresford — voted in favor of the capital call. Lennox Council instructed their representative to vote for the capital call, citing that the best thing for LCRWS members would be to get all members on the system as soon as possible.
